Hoburne Blue Anchor Access

Hoburne Blue Anchor overlooks the sea front of Blue Anchor Bay and a long flat promenade.

The beach and promenade is accessed from the park across a main road which can be busy in high season. The promenade is long and flat with a wide pavement suitable for all disabilities. The beach itself is accessed by steps which are steep and not suitable for wheelchairs.

General access to the sea front and promenade is available by car and there are numerous free parking spaces. During the summer there is a regular bus service between Minehead and Watchet via Blue Anchor run by Webberbus and Blue Motors. Webberbus do have the option of a wheelchair ramp available. Alcombe Taxi Service and Minehead Taxis are wheelchair friendly.

The West Somerset Railway runs through Blue Anchor from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard and buses are available from Bishops Lydeard to Taunton station for a national service. During the summer season there are some trains from Blue Anchor through to Bristol, changing at Taunton; details will be available from reception at the beginning of the season.

The park is mostly flat, large and spacious and is accessed by tarmac roads with speed bumps at regular intervals. There is a 10 mph speed limit throughout the park.

At the entrance to the park there is a site shop which can provide basic needs, there are parking spaces immediately outside the shop, one of which is designated exclusively for disabled use. Alternatively, the local branch of Somerfield, Minehead will deliver to the park free of charge orders to the value of £25.00 and above. Sainsburys will take orders on line or over the telephone for a delivery charge of £5.00. Orders delivered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that are in excess of £70.00 are delivered for less than £5.00; full details are on the website.

Next to the shop is a small café which caters for breakfasts, lunches and snacks and can be accessed by wheelchair.

The reception is approached through double doors which are suitable for wheelchairs. There is an induction loop at reception for use by the hard of hearing wearing a hearing aid. Any guests requiring assistance with luggage etc should enquire at reception upon arrival or if possible beforehand by telephone.

The swimming pool is adjacent to reception and also accessed by double doors, which enter a small foyer housing male and female toilets and a unisex disabled toilet, which doubles as a changing room for the disabled user.

The swimming pool itself has a ramp for access and a hoist for enabling disabled use. There is also a very shallow entrance into the pool itself.

The park itself consists of 3 fields of static caravans and 1 touring field. The accommodation in Anchor View and Bay View has parking nearby and some of the accommodation in Country View has parking alongside the caravan. There is a disabled caravan in Bay View (full details attached) which has a ramp for wheelchair access and its own parking space; it is fully adapted inside for disabled use.

On the Country View there is a Red Cross Chalet which has easy access for wheelchairs and can be booked direct.

There are a number of General Practitioners and Pharmacies in the area. There are also several Red Cross centres fairly local to the park for hire of wheelchairs etc.

The touring field pitches are on concrete hardstands with the awning area on grass. There are further male and female toilet blocks on the touring field. There is also a shower block which is adjacent to the laundrette; there is a further laundrette at the entrance to the Country Field. Unfortunately none of these facilities have wheelchair access at present.

There are numerous easily accessible water points, chemical toilet disposal points, dustbin areas, recycling points and fire points on the park.

The park is assistance dog friendly.

Mobile phone coverage in the area is good. There is a public telephone on the park at the side of the café and one on the main road.

A list of useful telephone numbers is attached and a more comprehensive list is available from reception.

Although we have tried to be as accurate as possible and include as much detail as we can in this statement, we are always willing to give more information on any aspect of the park.
