Keep Britain Tidy announced today (Wednesday 11 May) that six of Torbay’s beaches had been awarded Blue Flag status while ten beaches were given Quality Coast Awards, including Goodrington Beach, which is in walking distance of Hoburne Torbay.
Phil Barton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy which is responsible for the Blue Flag scheme in England said: “Traditional beach holidays in this country were always centred on our seaside resorts and we urge holiday-makers to rekindle their passion for our wonderful coastline and quality resorts.
“Our beaches are wonderful places to visit and that’s official! With 146 beaches around England’s coastline achieving Blue Flags and Quality Coast Awards this year, what better way to holiday in this country than to visit one of the award-winning beaches.
Mark Bevan, General Manager at Hoburne Torbay, said: “We are extremely proud to be located near so many amazing beaches and do what we can to inform customers to the care that goes into keeping the beaches clean and tidy and to ensure that they do their bit by using rubbish bins, etc. This is yet another reason to continue to holiday in the UK!”
In other regions Cornwall beaches were awarded 5 Blue Flag (Hoburne Doublebois) while Bournemouth and Poole were awarded 4 a piece (Hoburne Naish, Hoburne Park).
