From gazing across the rocky bay, trying to make out the southernmost tip of Wales in the distance, you turn and notice the pink limestone crystals sparkling on the cliffs. This is beautiful Blue Anchor Bay, home to Somerset’s Hoburne Blue Anchor.
Remember the rock pools you used to love playing in? There are plenty to explore here... indulge your inner child, or introduce your own children to the magical delights of discovering crabs and tiny fish. And watch the local fishermen on the sea wall too, casting their lines for a bite of codling or conger eel.
Behind the bay lie acres of green fields, where Somerset turns into Exmoor, and the region’s wild ponies and deer roam freely. Taking a drive through Minehead along to Porlock, you’ll admire the pretty villages and harbours. Or travel in a bit more style, on the West Somerset Steam Railway which runs alongside the Park. The whistle blows... the steam billows... and you’re gliding back to another time as you puff along the sensational Somerset coastline. Then visit majestic Dunster Castle for romance aplenty, with its turrets, hilltop views and sub-tropical gardens.
Romance, nostalgia and a mesmerising landscape that will stay in your memory forever... Somerset is here to be discovered.
