Where does Sammy come from?

A long time ago in the deepest darkest seas off the coast of Devon lived a little Seahorse.

His name was Sammy, he had many brothers and sisters who liked nothing better than frolicking in the surf on windy winter days, and chasing the shrimps through the thick sea weed.

One morning he was bouncing around the ocean and he ran into Tommy the Turtle, one of his best friends, who he challenged to a race to the other side of the bay. Tommy was a laid back turtle and saw no need to rush the race, so in no time Sammy was in the lead. Sammy used his fins to keep in front while Tommy disappeared as the murky waters closed in around him.

Sammy slowed down as the waters got darker and darker until he came to a complete stop. He looked around but couldn't see anything. He shouted for Tommy but there was no reply.

Suddenly he heard a loud whoosh behind him and a huge cloud of murky water swirled in over him. Scared he quickly turned around to see what it was when a large net charged towards him. He pushed himself away desperately with his tail but try as he might he wasn't able to and was stuck in the sand at the bottom of the sea. The net snaked its way around him and he was caught up as it started to rise. Suddenly the net buckled and he turned to see Tommy forcing the net down with his flipper.

Tommy tried to weigh the net down with all of his strength until there was enough of a gap for Sammy to escape through. Suddenly the net started to rise again and then before Tommy knew what had happened he was propelled upwards and out of the sea. “Tommy!” Sammy shouted as his friend disappeared upwards, he started to shake in the net angrily and tears welled up in his eyes. Then he heard a plop and something large landed on him and pushed him down into the bottom of the net again. It was Tommy.

The net continued to rise and as they were pulled out of the ocean the bright sunlight blinded both Sammy and Tommy. They could hear voices near by, “Wow look a Seahorse and a Turtle and a Lobster. Bonus!” Then before they could get their bearings they were thrust into a pot of water.

Sammy looked around him and found Tommy Turtle asleep next to him and dozing at the bottom of the bucket was a big, red lobster, his name was Larry. Sammy realised that he, Tommy and Larry had been caught in a fishing net by a family on holiday. Once on land they were left behind on the beach until a kind member of Hoburne Holiday Parks found them and brought them back to the park They were taken back to a big place called Hoburne Torbay where they were looked after. Each day they grew bigger and stronger and although they missed the sea they learned to love their new home.

One day Sammy, Tommy and Larry had the surprise of their lifes, they were asked to come along to watch a show in the big clubhouse one evening. Sammy didn’t know what to expect and was a bit scared. He waited out in the reception until his new friends asked him to come round the curtain and look. When he walked through the curtain he heard the biggest cheer he had ever experienced. There were hundreds of children standing in front of Sammy, Tommy and Larry clapping and waving.

Sammy felt a wave of happiness and smiled at all the little people in front of him. His entertainment friend took him by the hand and said. “Sammy these are all your new friends who have come to meet you. They know how much you miss all your friends and want to help you never to feel lonely or sad again.”

Sammy jumped down off the stage with Tommy and Larry and all the little people ran over to them to give them all a big hug. They felt so happy to have so many friends around them again and promised they would always be there for the children when they visited the Holiday Park.
