Dog-friendly beaches in Hampshire and Dorset

Located on the southern coast of the UK, Hampshire is the perfect place for a summer holiday. Made up of Portsmouth, Southampton, and Winchester, this seaside county is ideal for a summer getaway, especially as it has some beautiful beaches for dogs. Two of the most popular of which are Browndown Point Beach and Milford-on-Sea.

Browndown Point Beach is a sand and shingle beach that is owned by the Ministry of Defence. It’s located near to Gosport, just outside of Portsmouth. In clear weather you can see straight across to the Isle of Wight.

Milford-on-Sea is a small village located on the south coast of Hampshire. It also has a dog-friendly beach of the same name. This pebble beach is a popular summer location for families looking for beaches for dogs. It’s famed for its beautiful views and impressive array of colourful beach huts.

Dog-friendly beaches in dorset

Located to the west of Hampshire, Dorset is another southern county that’s a popular summer travel destination. With Poole, Bournemouth, and, of course, the famous Jurassic Coast, Dorset has a lot to offer. The great thing about this county is that it has lots of dog-friendly beaches, as well as plenty of other activities and attractions that the whole family will love.

Hengistbury West

A pebble and shingle beach located near Christchurch in Dorset, Hengistbury West is ideal for spending a sunny day exploring. There’s a beautiful stretch of beach that children and dogs will love to run around and play on. There’s also a cafe serving all sorts of drinks, snacks and ice creams, complete with a toilet block.

Fishermans Walk, Bournemouth

It might be somewhat quieter than Bournemouth’s main beaches, but Fishermans Walk has a lot to offer. It’s dog-friendly, and has the coveted Blue Flag award for cleanliness and water purity. It’s also a wheelchair friendly beach and has its own lift to help less mobile visitors get on and off the beach. Southbourne Beach, Bournemouth Again, this is another beach that’s less crowded than Bournemouth’s main beaches. Along with its neighbouring beach, Fishermans Walk, Southbourne beach also has the Blue Flag. In the summer months, Southbourne Beach only has a small area where dogs are permitted. However, for the rest of the year, it’s dog friendly.

Renowned for being one of the best beaches in the UK, in the summer months, Sandbanks is an incredibly popular beach. It’s located just outside of Poole, has the coveted Blue Flag award, and has an area that dogs are allowed on throughout the year. Its golden sands and cool waters make it a popular location for beach holidays for families of all sizes and ages.
