Dog-friendly beach holidays at Hoburne Naish

Dogs are a part of the family, so when you’re off on your holidays, why should they miss out?

Here at Hoburne, our stunning locations in the South and South West make it even easier to enjoy a beachside break without calling on the kennels!

Perched on the clifftop above the beaches of Barton on Sea and Highcliffe, Hoburne Naish will provide you with stunning views across the Solent, and a different route to be explored each day with your four-legged friend!

Highcliffe 300x225

Take the beach gate from the park and wander down through Chewton Bunny Nature Reserve to the beach. To the left you’ll have the sandy beaches of Barton on Sea, with views across the water to the Isle of Wight. To the right you’ll have Highcliffe Beach with Hengistbury Head and the iconic beach huts of Mudeford Quay in the distance.

Both Highcliffe and Barton beach are dog-friendly and popular places for water sports, picnics and sunbathing in the summer – although much more private and not as busy as the nearby beaches of Bournemouth!

Highcliffe Castle 300x225

HIGHCLIFFE BEACH, LEADING TO FRIARS CLIFF & AVON BEACH

Along Highcliffe Beach, there are plenty of paths and staircases back up to the clifftop where you can stop for a spot of lunch in the village. Highcliffe is home to a wealth of cafés, takeaway outlets, and shops, many of which are dog-friendly. Our personal favourite is the Cliffhanger Café where you can sit and admire the view from the clifftop garden.

From Highcliffe beach, you can also access the gardens of Highcliffe Castle, a grade 1 listed local landmark built between 1831 and 1836 by Lord Stuart de Rothesy. The gardens are a popular spot for picnics and join the equally beautiful, unspoilt nature reserve at Steamer Point.

Barton 300x225

BARTON ON SEA

Should you choose to towards the beach of Barton on Sea, there is no direct access back up the clifftop, so if you’re hoping to have a look around the village then we’d recommend walking along the clifftop from the park and out of the back gate. You can still wander down onto the beach when you get to Barton, it just means that you won’t miss out on the potential pit-stops for a drink or an ice cream along the way.

The Cliffhouse is the perfect dog-friendly spot for an afternoon tipple in the sun - you could even try out Barton larger or Barton flip flop gin! For ice cream, The Beachcomber café is a popular spot for holidaymakers and locals alike and sits right next to the beach path.

While the part of Barton beach that is accessed from our holiday park is sandy, the path down from the village is covered in pebbles so do bear this in mind if you have a preference, or if your four-legged friend has delicate paws!
