You may think of Devon as the typical English seaside resort, and in many ways, it is – miles of beaches, cream tea on demand and picturesque villages. However, there’s so much more to be explored – especially when the sun is shining.

DARTMOOR NATIONAL PARK

Dartmoor 415x311Nearby, Dartmoor National Park is home to the most breath-taking scenery. Rolling hills, fast-flowing rivers and stunning views of an ancient landscape; Dartmoor is the dream for historians and hikers alike.

With over 400 square miles to explore, the area consists of vast, open moors and magical hidden forests.

Exploring the park on foot, by bike or even from a canoe is an all-round winner whether your party consists of tiny feet or padded paws. You could even enjoy a day of geocaching… Just watch out for those mischievous Dartmoor ponies!

PAIGNTON ZOO

There’re over 2,500 animals waiting for you at Paignton Zoo, and it’s less than a 10-minute drive from Hoburne Devon Bay. With everything from elephants to echidnas and tortoises to tigers, there’s guaranteed to be a favourite for all the family (even your own little monkeys)!

SOUTH DEVON RAILWAY

Running between Buckfastleigh and Totnes, the South Devon Railway is a step back in time to the 1930s.

Upon riding the 7-mile line along the River Dart, you’ll have the opportunity to visit 3 great attractions in one day including the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies.

To make the most of the tranquil valley-view, you could even join one of the popular dining trains and enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch or afternoon tea.

Paignton pier 415x311PAIGNTON PIER

Claiming to be the best in the UK at sandcastle-building; Paignton still has the good, old-fashioned charm of a Victorian holiday resort.

Bustling with colour, noise and fun, the pier is home traditional attractions including bumper cars, an amusement arcade and helter-skelter.

In true tourist-style, you’ll be able to take a quick snap in a ‘head-in-the-hole’ style cut out board and then finish the day off with some authentic fish and chips.

WOODLANDS FAMILY THEME PARK

Woodlands is Devon’s largest and most diverse theme park. With adrenaline-shaking rides such as the 50ft Trauma Tower and sky-scraping ride, Vertigo there’s something for the thrill-seekers as well as those less daring.

If you’ve got toddlers in your party, then they’ll be right at home in the Toddler’s village zone which includes a ball pool and play house, as well as smaller slides and swings.

There’s even something for the animal-lovers with a zoo and aviary at the park. If you’re a fan of falconry, then be sure to head along to a display which showcases a variety of birds including everything from owls to eagles.

With all these great places on your holiday home doorstep, as well as the great daily activities including swimming, live entertainment and adventure playground on park, there’s never a dull moment at Hoburne Devon Bay.
