1610 launches community swimming initiative at Blue Anchor holiday park

1610 is launching a new community swimming initiative at a holiday park at Blue Anchor Bay, near Minehead to give greater access to swimming lessons for the local community. www.1610.org.uk

1610 is launching the Rainbow Swim Academy at the Hoburne Blue Anchor Holiday Park from September. It's the first time that 1610 has worked in partnership with a holiday park in this way but its hoped that the initiative will allow more local children to have access to swimming lessons at the holiday park indoor pool which is open to the general public.

1610 manages West Somerset Leisure Centre in MInehead but the facilities do not include a swimming pool, and many people from the local area have to travel much further a field to sign on for swimming lessons.

The Rainbow Swim Academy will be available for children from 4 years of age and it will provide an important community resource for local families as Ricky Hayes, 1610
Swim & Sports Development Manager explains: “ Swimming is a vital life skill, especially for children in an area like Minehead which is situated on the coast. Access to local swimming lessons are limited so 1610 believed it was important to provide a much needed service for families in Minehead. Joining forces with the Hoburne Blue Anchor Holiday Park provided the solution to a local problem and one which could prove to be a springboard to an active and healthy lifestyle for West Somerset children.”
